Pre-Summit Leadership Day
Many people are asked to lead a project such as safe patient handling, falls prevention, or another safety initiative without feeling they have any authority to make the decisions they need to be successful in their goals, or they lack the necessary influence and power that comes within a framework of a traditional management hierarchy.
This one day event demonstrates how, using a relationship-based approach to effective leadership can get you where you need to be, and to be successful and respected along the way.
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- Define the difference between management and leadership and why a hierarchical approach is not necessary to project success.
- Understand the concept of Horizontal Leadership and how this can help you when leading a project
- Identify why different communication channels are required for different people in order to build effective relationships
- Manage your time more effectively and focus on those activities that will make the biggest impact
- Recognize your ability to be an agent of change through following the principles of being a Shepherd Leader
- Reflect on your own abilities, strengths, and challenges, and where to seek support for your own professional growth
This one-day event is suitable for staff of all disciplines who are responsible for leading a safe patient handling, falls management or other patient safety initiative, for those staff who represent their professional groups on the project committees, or for unit leaders who face the challenges of providing program leadership to their peers.
