While the purchase of safe patient handling and movement (SPHM) equipment is the most visible part of implementing a SPHM program, it is the training and education of staff that is one of the most significant components to effect a change in clinical practice. Establishing a diverse education approach that not only fits the needs of a particular professional group and the individuals within it, but also the area within which they work is essential. This article examines the different approaches that could be incorporated into an effective educational strategy, along with suggestions for ways to integrate them into practice.
